After three days with no racing we’ve got the itch and we’re ready to make some money. To avoid the questionable weather in Florida and the terrible fields at Aqueduct I’ve taken a look at Fair Grounds and found a few good looking plays. Let’s get right to the action!
Thursday pick for Fair Grounds:
Race 6: King Tuff - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/1)
Three year olds race a mile and a sixteenth on grass and many of these are only making their second career starts. A few will take more attention than our selection who finished a well-beaten sixth first time out back in December. There are a few things I like about King Tuff and I think he offers value here at 5/1 or higher. First time out he was bet down to 2.80/1 odds - a rare thing to see for a first time starter going long on the grass so the barn may have had some faith in this one. He was jostled at the start so hopefully he breaks better today but of the 7 runners in that field, 3 have come back to run on turf and have improved their speed figures by 16 points, 9 points and 18 points. So that’s looking like a pretty productive race. Runner has worked out 7 times since that start for a barn that wins with 27% of runners dropping from maidens into maiden claimers.
Best of luck to everyone playing Thursday’s races from Fair Grounds!
