Race 8: 3rd@ 2.80/1
The Robert started our week in Race 1 at Delaware on Wednesday with a VICTORY! Stalking the pace, The Robert went four wide turning for home and just got up for the win. In Race 3, our first of two first-time-starters for trainer Darien Rodriguez. This race was rained off the turf - the surface we had originally selected Palace King for and raced well back of the field and closed mildly to get 8th. Will likely improve with experience and a surface switch. After a scratch in Race 7, we leaned on our second Darien Rodriguez first time starter in Race 8, Ucaptured Aero took lots of early play and showed good early speed but had little left in the tank by the far turn tiring to third in the lane on debut.
Let’s take a look at some races from Belmont Park for Thursday where we expect partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures with a fast main track and a firm turf course. Post time for the first race is 12:35 EDT, which is slightly earlier than it had been to accommodate the fact that it’s getting a little darker a little earlier this time of year. Let’s get to the action!
Thursday picks for Belmont Park:
Race 5: Classic Vinman - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15//1)
Maiden claiming NY bred runners. Woof, what a rough looking field! Many times though, races like these can produce longshots and that’s what we’re hoping for in Classic Vinman. This runner picks up jockey Kendrick Carmouche, who’s known to be a speed jockey. First time out he raced greenly and bore out 10 wide on the turn losing all chance. His trainer drops him into maiden claimers now - a move he’s 1 for 3 with over the past few years with a positive ROI. In fact, trainer Rick Schosberg is 1 for 2 with runners making their second career start while dropping into maiden claimers with an average payoff of $17.80. Low profile barn and horrid looking first start will keep the price high and this runner is a half to multiple stakes-placed runner Attachment Rate - who also ran terribly first time out before just missing second time out at 50/1 odds. Sire - Classic Empire is also off to a hot start winning with 18% of overall runners. Expecting a better effort at 15/1 or higher.
