Horse Racing: RT and SmartCap pick the 6th at Gulfstream looking for two in a row in Florida

RT

RT Report for Thursday, April 16th, 2020

Nothing like coming off the bench and knockin’ it out 😊. Yesterdays’ pick unfolded exactly as called with Chillie Willie Martinez rating Lady Love perfectly before unleashing her in the stretch. It paid $7.80 for the win and $4.20 to place.

On another note, if any of you cracked the Fonner Park code, please send me the answer at SmartCap@bettorsinsider.com. That place is whacked.

Todays’ race is the 6th at Gulfstream – a one-mile turf route for 3yo’s+ who've never won two races.

On paper, this is a competitive race. SmartCap has unfolded the following.

#1 Rhythm With Soul (10/1) has an overall class rating of 138 (yet hasn’t run in nineteen months) with #5 Bourbon Currency (7/2) having next best at 128. For overall speed, Bourbon Currency is best overall with a 96 and #2 Prince Khozan (6/1) has a 93.

Numbers-wise, what makes this race unique is the best last figures. Using Equibase numbers, #3 Extra Extra (12/1) has the best last numbers garnering a 101 speed figure in a mile and a half turf race where he took the lead and, according to the comments was “gassed,” a term I’ve never seen before in the comments section. It’s no wonder as the jockey took him on the three path the entire trip. The horse did six furlongs in 1:11 from the three path, which amounted to six and a quarter furlongs before tiring and being out if it. Today, he gets a radical cut back to a mile and will be on the lead unabated. We’ll see if he gets caught.

#4 Joyful Heart (4/1) with Extra Extra, and Prince Khozan have the second best numbers. Joyful Heart hit an Equibase speed number of 101 last time, however, he is 15:1-3-2 lifetime and his last four races have been a progression. His pattern is to regress from his high whenever he usurps it, so I am expecting him to fry off his speed style.

Two races back, Bourbon Currency has best last figures and #7 Clamor (10/1) has the next best.

Three races back, #9 Lucky Mike (8/1) has the best figures and Bourbon Currency has the second best.

So, how does this all shake out and who will win?

Extra Extra, along with #8 Conquer (6/1) will vie for the lead with Extra Extra shaking loose of him in the first three furlongs. Coming into the turn and down the stretch, Dylan Davis will position Bourbon Currency to make a run at the speed and he’ll catch Extra Extra. Bourbon Currency has a pattern of up down, up down and he’ll have an improved race over last – which will best this group.

I’m going to bet both Bourbon Currency and Extra Extra to win/place and an exacta with both. You never know with a nine horse field who can get caught in traffic over a mile and the speed horse may hold.

Happy Hunting!
