Connecticut Sun at Chicago Sky, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Connecticut +4.5 (-105), bet $6 to win $5.71
This line is like the opposite of recency bias. It’s regarding only that Chicago had a great regular season and surprised everyone last year when they surprised Connecticut and beat them in the playoffs. Call it “stubborncy bias,” I guess (copyright that!). The Sun have been waiting all year for another crack at the Sky, with the memory of being deprived their chance at a championship last season. Sunday, they took it to Chicago, holding the Sky to 35.3% shooting. They slowed the game down and made it somewhat of a rock fight. They’ll do it again tonight. The Sky must have this game, so I’m not saying Connecticut will win again. But they’re better than everyone’s giving them credit for – and they have long memories.
Seattle Storm at Las Vegas Aces, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Las Vegas -260, bet $41 to win $15.77
For the most part, I’ve stayed away from moneylines all season. But tonight is a special case. Las Vegas was upset in Game 1 on Sunday and absolutely must have tonight’s game. On Sunday, Seattle kinda took it to them in the first quarter, building an 11-point lead. That won’t happen tonight. Storm guard Jewel Loyd had 26 points; that won’t happen tonight. The Aces are the better team, they’ve been better all season, and if this is going to be a series, they simply have to have this one. I see no way WNBA Coach of the Year Becky Hammon doesn’t have her squad ready tonight. I’ll take a deep breath and pay a steep price not to have to worry about point spreads. Because in a way, I need this game too.
