Phoenix Mercury at Connecticut Sun, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix +10 (-112), bet $5 to win $4.50
This is just too many points. The Mercury are not the team they were last season, but neither are the Sun. I think a little too much is being made of Phoenix’s loss to New York on Sunday. The Sun should handle this game fine, but will put it on cruise control enough that the Mercury get the cover.
Los Angeles Sparks at New York Liberty, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Los Angeles +4.5 (-104), bet $5 to win $4.81
New York is the better team but they just had a huge win over Phoenix (see above) and I think they’re going to let down a bit tonight. The Sparks have dropped three in a row, which I feel only increases the chance the Liberty let down a bit tonight. I think it’s a tight battle which New York may win, but which will be fought tooth-and-nail.
Las Vegas Aces at Washington Mystics, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Washington +3.5 (-115), bet $5 to win $4.35
I’ll take the home dog Mystics who have already beaten the Aces, in Las Vegas in fact. In fact, Washington has beaten Las Vegas twice this season. So they won’t be intimidated. The Mystics need the game more than the Aces do, and they’ll want to prove they’re in the WNBA’s top tier.
Dallas Wings at Chicago Sky, 9 pm Eastern
The Pick: Dallas +8 (-113), bet $5 to win $4.45
Dallas has lost their last two games to Chicago by six and by eight points. They know they can hang with the Sky. In a league where teams get to know each other well (because there are only 12 of them), familiarity favors the underdog…as you can see by my picks today… Also, by this time of year you have to factor in which team needs the game more. The Wings are battling for a playoff spot. They can’t afford a weak performance. I think they hang around tonight.
