Chicago Sky at Connecticut Sun, 1 pm Eastern
The Pick: Chicago +5.5 (-110), bet $5.50 to win $5
I would’ve thought this would be a tight game regardless, but the fact that last year Chicago really proved they had gotten in Connecticut’s collective head has me certain. The Sky have already beaten the Sun in Connecticut, so it’s not like they won’t know how to handle the situation. Courtney Vandersloot is back from her concussion, and her leadership (and perhaps, as she showed Thursday, her scoring) will be a huge boost today.
Phoenix Mercury at New York Liberty, 2 pm Eastern
The Pick: New York +2.5 (-114), bet $7.50 to win 6.58; New York +116, bet $3 to win $3.48
I honestly don’t know why Phoenix is favored in this game. I mean, I know why - Phoenix has a better record (13-16 vs. 10-18) - but I don’t know why people are buying that. The Mercury have been better lately, but are still playing without Brittney Griner and without a firm identity. They’re also 4-11 on the road. I think the Liberty believe they still have a shot at the postseason, and they’ll play like it today.
Las Vegas Aces at Indiana Fever, 3 pm Eastern
The Pick: Indiana +16.5, bet $5 to win $4.35
I’m on record as saying no team in the WNBA should be laying this many points, and I’ll stand by it, especially since Indiana’s at home. The Aces just beat the Fever by 21 on Friday; they’ll take their foot off the gas today.
Seattle Storm at Washington Mystics, 3 pm Eastern
The Pick: Washington -2.5 (-106), bet $5 to win $4.72
I’m going with Washington today even though I was wrong about them yesterday. I still think they’re better than Seattle. Also, since the Storm’s victory yesterday clinched them a playoff spot, they’re likely to ease up today. Besides, now it’s the Mystics turn.
Minnesota Lynx at Los Angeles Sparks, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Los Angeles +1.5 (-118), bet $5 to win $4.24
Right now, Los Angeles holds the last playoff spot. So they’re motivated. They’ve dropped two in a row. More motivation. I’ll take the home dog still, well, motivated to prove they’re better now that they’ve rid themselves of Liz Cambage.
