New York Liberty at Washington Mystics, 11:30 am Eastern
The Pick: New York +9 (-117), bet $5.81 to win $5
I think Washington is in the top tier of teams in the WNBA right now…but they’re at the bottom of that top tier. I think New York is in the lower tier of teams in the WNBA right now…but they’re at the top of that tier. Nine points is a lot to give a team that’s already beaten Washington twice. Now, I understand that the absence(s) of Elena Delle Donne were factors, but still. I think New York won’t be afraid to go into Washington’s gym and give the Mystics a game. New York has lost four in a row but I’m not looking for a win - just a competitive outing. I think the Liberty will give it.
Atlanta Dream at Los Angeles Sparks, 3:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta +1.5 (-113), bet $5.62 to win $5
I have no idea why Los Angeles is favored in this game. They’re at home? Big whoop; they’re under .500 at home. Atlanta is playing its third straight road game? Okay - they’ve won the first two by an average of 13 points, including a smackdown of Las Vegas on Tuesday. The Sparks haven’t beaten a quality team since July 1, and no doubt many of you don’t consider Dallas to be a quality team (we’ll agree to disagree). L.A. has the second-worst defense in the league; I continue to feel this is relevant.
Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Indiana +16.5 (-118), bet $5 to win $4.24
I mean, this is a monstrous amount of points. They’re begging me to take Indiana, so I will. I’m not gonna put a big play on it, but Las Vegas plays Indiana three times in the next 10 days, and I feel they’re just not gonna have their full hearts in them. The Aces just want to get through this slog and get ready for the playoffs. I think the Fever will at least give it a go in this first matchup.
