Dallas Wings at Seattle Storm, 3 pm Eastern

The Pick: Dallas +7.5 (-106), bet $7.50 to win $7.08

As the second half of the WNBA season tips off tonight, I think these two teams are closer to each other than their records indicate. Seattle is 15-8 while Dallas is only 10-12, but the Storm are only 7-6 against the spread at home (11-12 ATS overall) while the Wings are 6-4 ATS on the road (12-9-1 overall). In the three games they’ve played this season, Dallas has gone 1-2 but hung tight in the two losses. They’ve beaten the Storm in Seattle. I still think they’re a playoff sleeper. I also think the Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale gets up to play against fellow scorer Jewel Loyd. Dallas’ stars are younger and less likely to let down after the All-Star Game on Sunday. I like a tight matchup tonight.

Las Vegas Aces at New York Liberty, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Las Vegas -6.5 (-113), bet $7.50 to win $6.68

Las Vegas lost to New York by nine points on July 6 and I’ve spent the last week confused by that fact. That may be a slight overstatement. But it’s confusing nonetheless. The Aces have slumped this past month, dropping five of seven games, and I think they’ll have a sense of urgency heading into the second half of the WNBA season. New York has certainly played better of late, but they just don’t have the talent Las Vegas does. That gap in talent, combined with the Aces need to turn things around, should translate to an easy victory.

Atlanta Dream at Chicago Sky, 8 pm Eastern

The Pick: Atlanta +10 (-113), bet $7.50 to win $6.68

Too many points. Atlanta has played Chicago twice this season, losing once by eight and once by six in overtime. They won’t play afraid tonight. The Sky are currently playing better than any team in the league, but the bright lights of All-Star Weekend have dimmed, and I do think they’ll let down a bit tonight – perhaps not enough to lose the game, but enough to grind out a businesslike win.

Phoenix Mercury at Minnesota Lynx, 8 pm Eastern

The Pick: Minnesota -5.5 (-113), bet $7.50 to win $6.68

Minnesota has been playing well of late, winning five of seven games, rewarding my faith from earlier in the season. Of course, my faith was wavering and that winning stretch for the Lynx has coincided with me picking against them. That stops tonight; my faith is back. Sylvia Fowles is back from injury and will dominate the paint against a Phoenix team without Brittney Griner. I know I sound like a broken record on some of these teams, but this is not rocket science. Unfortunately, right now it’s international relations. Until the Griner crisis gets solved, the Mercury will have trouble in the paint.

Washington Mystics at Los Angeles Sparks, 10:30 pm Eastern

The Pick: Washington -3.5 (-114), bet $7.50 to win $6.60

I’m sorry. I just don’t think Los Angeles is any good, or can sustain any good play for any period of time. Tonight, they’ll be without guard Chennedy Carter, and Sparks starters Kristi Tolliver, Chiney Ogwumike, and Brittney Sykes might play but are still banged up. Washington is a very good team when Elena Delle Donne plays and can smell a return to playoff form. The Mystics are only one game behind the Connecticut Sun for second place in the Eastern Conference, and have a better record on the road than the Sparks do at home. I think Washington makes a statement tonight.
