Connecticut Sun at Atlanta Dream, 3 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta +8 (-113), bet $7.50 to win $6.68
I’ll take Atlanta here as a home dog getting almost double-digits. The Dream may only be 8-9, but they’re 10-7 against the spread and they’ve only lost one game at home by more than eight points. True, it was their last game against New York, but that only makes me like them more to play a close game today. Connecticut is 12-6 and only a half-game out of first for the Eastern Conference lead, but their defense is not what it was last year. Atlanta’s is actually better. The Sun beat the Dream by 13 on June 15, but again that make me feel this game will be closer. Atlanta will want to make up for that game and the Sun may not play quite as hard. I’ll take the eight.
Minnesota Lynx at Chicago Sky, 6 pm Eastern
The Pick: Chicago -6 (-113), bet $7.50 to win $6.88
I think the spread has come down in this game due to Minnesota center Sylvia Fowles' return from her knee injury. But although Fowles may be back, Napheesa Collier is still out, and the Lynx are still quite the mess. They’re one half-game in front of Indiana for the worst record in the WNBA. Chicago, on the other hand, leads the Eastern Conference, is third in the league in offensive rating, and has a better assist/turnover rating than any team except Las Vegas. They’re the defending champs, they’re humming pretty good, and they’re playing at home today. True, Chicago can allow teams to hang around, but six points isn’t that big a spread and they only beat Minnesota by four last time. I think the Sky will want to show that was a fluke and that they’re in a better class than the Lynx. Chicago wins going away today.
