Indiana Fever at Dallas Wings, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Indiana +9 (-112), bet $8.33 to win $7.50
Look, I like the Dallas Wings a lot. I like ‘em “they can make some noise in the playoffs” a lot. But I don’t yet like ‘em “Laying nine points at home” a lot. I see the Wings winning this game, but they haven’t shown too much of a tendency to put their feet on opponents’ necks. They let teams hang around, they play down to teams, they play a lot of close games, and I still don’t think they have the wisdom necessary to not let a bad team think they have a chance. And I think Indiana thinks they have a chance in every game they play. Not to mention, the Fever just beat the Chicago Sky; they’re capable of hanging with good teams. I think they cover with a good performance tonight.
Washington Mystics at Seattle Storm, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Washington +2.5 (-108), bet $8.06 to win $7.50
(shrug) Elena Delle Donne is probable for tonight, and I see no reason to stop riding the “Take the Mystics when Delle Donne plays, take the opponent when she doesn’t,” until it’s proven no longer lucrative. Also, Seattle is only 6-10 against the spread this year, 4-5 ATS at home, and a terrible 7-16 ATS in their last 23 going back to last season. The Mystics and Storm have not played so far this season, and I think Delle Donne will want to put up a good showing. Sue Bird just announced her retirement, and while I think that will help Seattle at the season’s end, I think this game will be a bit of a letdown after that announcement. The Mystics make a statement tonight.
Chicago Sky at Los Angeles Sparks, 10:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Chicago -6.5 (-105), bet $7.88 to win $7.50
Candace Parker Revenge Game. I don’t care that Los Angeles fired coach Derek Fisher two weeks ago, and I don’t care that Parker won a championship with Chicago last season. She will want to make it clear that she owns the Sparks. That’s partly because the Sparks beat the Sky on May 6, a 98-91 overtime thriller. Parker and her teammates will want to avenge that. The Sky made a huge statement on Tuesday storming back to beat the Las Vegas Aces. They will not let down tonight. Despite that win over Chicago back in May, the Sparks just aren’t very good and they have the worst defense in the WNBA. Chicago point guard Courtney Vandersloot will carve them up tonight.
