Dallas Wings at Atlanta Dream, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta +5.5 (-102), bet $10 to win $9.80; Atlanta +205, bet $5 to win $10.25
This is a nice “home dog” situation. Dallas has a tendency to play close games, and also to follow up a nice game with a flat performance. Not to mention, Atlanta has already beaten the Wings, in Dallas. Granted, it was a pre-season game, but the Dream know they can play with them. Atlanta can rebound the basketball as well as Dallas, and actually guards much better. I think the Wings let down a bit from their win over Los Angeles on Sunday, and I’ll even put a small taste on Atlanta to pull off the upset.
Chicago Sky at Las Vegas Aces, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Las Vegas -7.5 (-112), bet $7.50 to win $6.70
Both of these teams are coming off lackluster performances on Sunday. Las Vegas had to survive a nail biter against a Minnesota team without star center Sylvia Fowles, and Chicago fell to the 5-13 Indiana Fever. Both teams may have been looking past their Sunday opponent to this matchup. I think Aces’ coach Becky Hammon will fire up her team to make up for that game against the Lynx at home. Also, though she’s listed as probable, Sky star Candace Parker is suffering from a sore knee - she might be game but she won’t be at her best. The Aces are the fastest-paced team in the WNBA and they’ll be looking to put Sunday behind them.
Minnesota Lynx at Phoenix Mercury, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix -5.5 (-109), bet $8.15 to win $7.50
As I mentioned, Minnesota came very close to knocking off the best team in the WNBA, the Las Vegas Aces, on Sunday. It was a great performance that a) ultimately ended in a loss and b) was probably the worst thing to happen as far as tonight’s game against Phoenix. Again, as I mentioned, Lynx star center Sylvia Fowles is out with a knee injury, so Minnesota’s advantage in the paint due to Brittney Griner’s absence is nullified. The Mercury have won four of their last six games, and are in a virtual tie for the WNBA’s final playoff spot. They’ll be eager to take care of business at home tonight, while the Lynx have been on the road since Sunday and are bound to come down from that tight battle with the Aces.
Washington Mystics at Los Angeles Sparks, 10:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Los Angeles +5.5 (-110), bet $8.24 to win $7.50
(shrug) Home dog + Elena Delle Donne not playing + Washington Mystics flying cross-country after a big win = cover. I still don’t like Los Angeles much, but Delle Donne resting means the Mystics will find it much tougher to score. The Sparks are also in that virtual tie for the final playoff spot, so playing at home against a team missing its star is an opportunity. Washington is up-and-down and its not that hard to predict when they’ll be down - when Delle Donne is not playing. That’s more than enough for me to take the home dog.
