Minnesota Lynx at New York Liberty, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Minnesota +2.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10; Minnesota +118, bet $5 to win $5.90
(shrug) I mean, these two teams played each other on Sunday, and I picked Minnesota then. And they won. And I mean, the line only changed one point, from the Lynx getting 3.5 to getting 2.5. (shrug) Okay. My same rationale applies: Minnesota center Sylvia Fowles has no equal in the paint against the Liberty, New York is dealing with the loss of their best scorer Betnijah Laney, and, oh, yeah – the Liberty have been terrible so far this year. I believe they’re the worst team in the WNBA right now. It’s not all their fault – not having Laney is huge – but it means I’m not giving them any credit against a team that just beat them two days ago. Fowles had 18 points on Sunday; she’ll have more today.
Atlanta Dream at Seattle Storm, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta +8.5 (-114), bet $7.20 to win $5
(shrug) I mean, same rationale here. Seattle lets teams hang around when they’re playing at home. Hang around, heck – the last two home matchups the Storm have let their opponent hang around so much they lost the game. Atlanta is better than they were, with Rookie of the Year candidate Rhyne Howard they fear no one, and in Seattle they face a team playing on its heels. Furthermore, the Storm will have trouble keeping the Dream off the boards; Atlanta has a 30% offensive rebound rating while Seattle defensive board rating is ninth in the league. I don’t think the Dream are so much better, or the Storm so much down, that Atlanta pulls off the upset, but the spread is too much.
