Connecticut Sun at Indiana Fever, 2 pm Eastern
The Pick: Connecticut -11.5 (-118), bet $11.80 to win $10
Here’s another double-digit spread for the Fever to cover, right? Well, I know what I said the other day, something along the lines of “I’ll keep taking Indiana when they get this many points.” But not today, because today they’re playing a Connecticut team they just played on Friday. Part of why I’m a genius is, I’m able to break my occasional rule, even if I just made the rule two days ago. The Sun beat the Fever by 9, 94-85, and I know that was a cover for Indiana, and I know today they’re at home. But I think Connecticut winning by “only” nine points just two days ago will have them a bit more committed to today’s game. The Sun were only up by 2 at halftime, and allowed the Fever to score 85 points, shooting 54% from the field. The WNBA’s best defense from last season will want to tighten that up. And that same team, who deep down feels they blew a shot at a championship last year, will want to make sure they don’t make any missteps. I think the Sun shine today. Apologies for my going against my “rule,” and for that pun.
Chicago Sky at Washington Mystics, 3 pm Eastern
The Pick: Chicago +1.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
The defending WNBA champs Chicago Sky roll into the nation’s capital today to face the surprising Mystics on national television. Well, not quite roll - stumble? Well, not quite stumble…But the Sky have started off 2-2, which is almost as surprising as the Mystics’ start. However, if we recall, the Sky seemed to stumble all last season before hitting their stride, peaking at the right time under the bright lights, and winning it all. Today’s game is on ABC, and these are games where Sky great Candace Parker likes to perform - for the crowd, for the TV audience, for the refs, for everyone. Averaging only 13.5 points per game so far, I think Parker will be up to a big performance. Both losses so far have been close (one in overtime), so I like getting the points with this team today.
