Minnesota Lynx at Las Vegas Aces, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Minnesota +12.5 (-110), bet $5.50 to win $5
(shrug) It’s a lot of points. Readers of this column know I have been both disappointed and confused by the Minnesota Lynx thus far, but their last three games have been close affairs, with them holding off the Los Angeles Sparks on the road on Tuesday. While they aren’t championship-ready or anything, I do think they’re starting to settle down. Las Vegas is the best team in the WNBA right now, and they’re at home to be sure, but they’ll have trouble with Sylvia Fowles in the paint and now that Lynx forward Kayla McBride is playing, Minnesota has two scoring threats. I see the Aces cruising just slowly enough for the Lynx to cover.
Dallas Wings at Phoenix Mercury, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Dallas +4.5 (-105), bet $10.50 to win $10; Dallas +168, bet $5 to win $8.40
(chuckles) The other WNBA team that plays with my heart, the Dallas Wings. Dallas has started off 2-2, but I like their backcourt against Phoenix’s Skyler Diggins-Smith. Wings, er, wings Arike Ogunbowale and Marina Mabrey will not be afraid of Diggins-Smith (they're all Notre Dame alums), and both Dallas scorers undoubtedly will rise to the challenge of going up against her – the three of them have chips on their shoulders and don’t back down from anyone. It’s undeniable that the absence of Brittney Griner has affected Phoenix’s play and morale (how could it not?), and while Phoenix may be the more mature squad, the Griner-sized hole in the middle has them off their game a bit. I’m a broken record on this, but I still believe once Dallas figures out how to win, they’re going to be hard to stop. I like them tonight.
