Connecticut Sun at New York Liberty, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Connecticut -7 (-113), bet $11.30 to win $10
Perhaps it’s a little early in the season to consider this a “revenge game,” but Connecticut probably remembers losing to New York on opening night, less than two weeks ago. Since then, the Sun have won their one game while the Liberty has dropped three in a row. So in a way, normalcy has returned. It will continue to return when Connecticut, a favorite to win the WNBA title and clearly the better team, makes up for that opening night loss.
Atlanta Dream at Indiana Fever, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Indiana +1.5 (-120), bet $12 to win $10
Heh, another “mild revenge game.” Atlanta rookie Rhyne Howard scored 33 points in Sunday’s matchup against the Fever, a promising sign for the Dream, to be sure. But the Fever were in the game the entire time, and aside from a sloppy third quarter, would’ve pulled it out. I think Atlanta “comes back to Earth” a little bit tonight, and Indiana manages to split the two games.
Washington Mystics at Dallas Wings, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Dallas +1.5 (-106), bet $10.60 to win $10
Washington has already demonstrated they’re a better team than last season, but I like Dallas’s offense and I think their core has had a little bit more time to coalesce. If anything, these teams are close enough to warrant taking points when they’re available.
Phoenix Mercury at Las Vegas Aces, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Las Vegas -7.5 (-120), bet $12 to win $10
Eleven days ago, Las Vegas went down to Phoenix and smacked the Mercury, 106-88. Tonight they face them at home, their first game in Vegas in over a week. I don’t see any reason why they won’t smack the Mercury again. The Aces are the best team in the WNBA right now, with a new coach pushing them to reach their potential. Phoenix just learned that their star center Brittney Griner is to be held prisoner - it feels absurd to type that but it’s true - for another month. Politics aside, the Mercury need their center. Las Vegas cruises tonight.
Minnesota Lynx at Los Angeles Sparks, 10:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Minnesota +8.5 (-105), bet $10.50 to win $10
Los Angeles may be a better team, and may be in less chaos than Minnesota right now, but they haven’t reached the point where they should be giving 8.5 points. I think Lynx center Sylvia Fowles gets the better of Sparks center Liz Cambage enough that the game is close.
