Dallas Wings at New York Liberty, 2 pm Eastern
The Pick: Dallas +2 (-113), bet $5.75 to win $5
Dallas is coming off a nice win against the emerging Washington Mystics on Friday, while New York lost a tough game in overtime to Indiana on the same night. While you’ve heard me rant and rave in my frustration about the up-and-down Wings, I continue to think they’re a team on the rise. What can I say, it’s a mild obsession - you should hear me bore first dates about how good I think the Dallas Wings could be if they were only more consistent. Today, they will have the best player on the floor in Arike Ogunbowale, who’s averaging 17 points per game. I won’t be using too much statistical analysis for another week or so, with a larger sample size, but for now I’ll go with Dallas’s offense being high-powered enough to top a New York team still looking for its identity.
Atlanta Dream at Indiana Fever, 3 pm Eastern
The Pick: Indiana -134, bet $6.70 to win $5
Speaking of mild obsessions I bore my dates with…the Indiana Fever, ladies and gentlemen! As I’ve said over and over, the Fever play hard and never give up, even when they’re overmatched…and especially at home. And now, they’ve got a fresh crop of talented rookies to help build some momentum. They showed some real guts on Friday, besting the Liberty in overtime after letting them back into the game. That’s a win they might not have gotten last season. I think Atlanta is better this year, too, but I like the Fever at home to…what? Give them a winning record? The Indiana Fever with a winning record? Yes, that makes this a sneaky-important game for them, and I like them to take it at home.
I’m putting only small tastes on both games today as a self-aware acknowledgement of my mild obsessions…
