Los Angeles Sparks at Atlanta Dream, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta +5 (-113), bet $11.30 to win $10
Los Angeles has started the season 2-0 but this is their third straight game on the road, against an Atlanta team playing its home opener. The Dream surprised the Dallas Wings in Dallas on Friday, punctuating a fresh start for the team. The Sparks may be better than they were last season, but I think Atlanta will be too, so I’ll take the home dog for a little higher price, here…
New York Liberty at Chicago Sky, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Chicago -4.5 (-114), bet $11.40 to win $10
…and I’ll pay a little higher price on the Sky as well. Chicago lost its home opener to the Sparks in overtime, and I’m wagering the defending champs are chomping at the bit for their first win. New York surprised the Connecticut Sun in their opener, but it was tight and it was at home. Chicago’s home crowd and veteran experience will right the ship tonight.
Seattle Storm at Phoenix Mercury, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix +4.5 (-106), bet $10.60 to win $10
Wait, I get to pay a lower price to take the home dog with the extra half-point? Yes, please. The Mercury were blown out in their opening game, 106-88, but it was to Las Vegas, who I think should be the favorite to win it all. Seattle lost to those same Aces by 11, after all. Besides, these two teams (and their stars, Storm guard Sue Bird and Mercury forward Diana Taurasi) know each other well. The Mercury are still missing Brittney Griner but the Storm don’t have anyone that big to help them take advantage. Another home dog, another half-point tipping the scales in what I’m betting is another close game between these two teams.
