WNBA Finals Game 1 Sunday: O'Sullivan picks the Sky at Mercury, thinks Vandersloot, Griner are keys

Chicago Sky at Phoenix Mercury, 3 pm EDT. (Congrats to Mercury star Diana Taurasi on the birth of her 2nd child.)

Seattle O’Sullivan so far: 141-118-1

Chicago Sky at Phoenix Mercury, 3 pm Eastern

The Pick: Chicago +3.5 (-118)

Phoenix won all three games against Chicago this season…but this is a different Sky team. Chicago really brought it to Connecticut in the semifinals, stepping up their defensive effort and controlling the game from the backcourt. If they match their intensity in this series, the Phoenix guards may not be able to handle it. For the Mercury, Brittney Griner may be the most physically gifted player on the court…but Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot holds the key to the series. Put simply, I think her basketball IQ dominates every second she’s on the court. Chicago averages 90.2 points per game, almost 10 points more than Phoenix. Despite Griner, the Sky average more than 5.5 rebounds per game (37.7 vs. 32.1). Phoenix is under .500 straight up (9-10) and against the spread (8-10-1) at home. I think the Sky will steal the series, including this first game on the road.
