Daniil Medvedev over Karen Khachanov

With the last quarterfinal between Gael Monfils and RBA being washed out by the rain that has consistently hit Montreal this week, the only semifinal set is between two Russians in the Top Ten, Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev. Khachanov has had a particularly good week taking out Stan Wawrinka, FA2, and Sascha Zverev in succession. Medvedev’s wins over Kyle Edmund and Cristian Garin were decidedly less impressive, but his straight set demolition of 4th ranked Dominic Thiem was purely a thing of beauty. Both of these guys are 6’6”, and they both serve howitzers, but I like Medvedev because he’s been consistently excellent this whole year. He sported a 2019 record of 34-15 coming into this tournament while Khachanov sported a pedestrian 18-17 mark. They both hit strong groundies, and are equally athletic, although Khachanov is a bit more flashy and splashy. Yet, for all the entertainment that this match should present, I think Medvedev will win the final point.
