Premier League picks for week 16: Stevie G back to Liverpool w Aston Villa, West Ham, Southampton, Brentford

It was a big week for the Premier League teams in Europe, as all four UEFA Champions League teams advanced (three as group winners) into Monday's knockout draw, while West Ham United also moved won its group in the UEFA Europa League.

Now, though, it is back to the action in what is turning out to be the most competitive league in the world, especially at the top.

All season, we are likely to see Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City bouncing around the top three: maybe, if we are lucky, we will get the title race like 2018-19, where Liverpool and City went toe to toe down the stretch winning every game for about three months.

But the races for the fourth place Champions League spot, plus the European places just below that, and the relegation battle, are all looking to be pretty competitive. Look at the bottom three right now: all are on 10 points, with Watford on 13, and another group of teams on 16.

That is going to change a lot over the next six game weeks, which all come before January 3, when the league takes a break for the third round of the F.A. Cup.

This weekend, we have games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Match Day 17 set for Tuesday-Thursday next week, and Match Day 18 next weekend.
