Sean Miller's EURO2020 Quarterfinals Preview and Odds: With France out, the path looks clear for England
It’s coming home, it’s coming home, it's coming, football's coming home.
After watching so many teams crash and burn in the UEFA EURO 2020 Round-of-16, England has now moved back to the front of the line heading into the quarterfinals this Friday and Saturday.
On the futures front, the odds have dramatically shifted. England, which looks to have a clear path to the final now on the bottom half of the bracket, and with the semifinal and final at home, is now the clear favorite at +205 to win its first European title. The Three Lions were the pre-tournament favorites with the sports books for so long, before the French overtook them about one month out. But France imploded spectacularly, so much so that Zinedine Zidane might be in charge in the fall for the 2021 Nations League Finals.
Spain is now second choice at +320, after scoring five goals for the second match running, with Italy third at +370.
I see one huge value play, and that would be Belgium at +700. The Red Devils are going to have to earn this title, much like France had to at the 2018 World Cup. Belgium will have to knock off Italy this Friday, then potentially Spain, and then England at Wembley.
Can it be done? Of course: the Belgians are ranked number 1 in the world. But are they healthy enough to do it?
Football might actually be coming home, finally, after so many years away from England.
