Two massive UEFA Champions League Match Day 5 early games could put pressure on later teams

Sometimes, playing that early game in the UEFA Champions League is not ideal.

But for the four teams Tuesday, it could be the best thing to happen to them.

In Groups A and B, three of the four knockout stage places are still open, with only Bayern Munich through so far. We start with A, where Red Bull Salzburg, with just one point through four matches, has a clear path to the knockout round, as does Lokomotiv Moscow (four points). If Salzburg wins in Russia, and Bayern beats Atletico Madrid at 3 p.m., Salzburg would advance with a win on Match Day 6 over Atletico. If Lokomotiv wins, its Match Day 6 game is against Bayern, which has already won the group.

In Group B, Real Madrid was stunned on Match Day 1 at home by Shakhtar Donetsk. If Zinedine Zidane’s side returns the favor Tuesday, Real Madrid is through, and all the pressure falls on Inter to win both its final matches.
