Thursday Champions League quarterfinal game of the day: Miller picks RB Leipzig vs Atlético Madrid with 4 plays

Atlético Madrid looks for another European deep run with UEFA Champions League quarterfinal Thursday. Match time is 3 pm EDT.

Thursday is the second game of the new UEFA Champions League one-game format, and this Atlético Madrid RB Leipzig match could not have come at a better time for one side, or a worse one for the other.

If this tie was played in late March/early April, like it was supposed to before COVID-19 shut everything down, RB Leipzig would have been favored. It was playing well in the Bundesliga, and Atlético Madrid was struggling mightily in La Liga, outside of the Champions League places.

But my how things have changed. Atleti used the break to regroup, and played well out of the break to finish third in Spain. Leipzig lost 30-goal scorer Timo Werner to Chelsea, and will struggle to find goals today.

Without Werner, this looks to be a bridge too far for Leipzig to cross, especially against the rejuvenated Atleti side.
