Manchester United, on 12-game unbeaten run, continues push towards UEFA Champions League. Match time is 1 pm EDT.
For Manchester United, the story in the second half of the Premier League season has been the unbeaten run of 12 games coming into Wednesday.
But there have been far too many draws this campaign (10): if just two of those draws were turned into wins, United would be just one point behind Chelsea for , and in a coveted UEFA Champions League place.
With the outcome of City’s CAS appeal to be known sometime in the next few weeks, fifth place might be good enough, but the Red Devils need to start piling up three points in each match.
Wednesday, Manchester United gets a Sheffield United side that has just one point out of the break in two games, each with a chance to move ahead of the Red Devils at the start of play. The Blades will be without keeper Dean Henderson, who is on loan from Manchester United (and has been spectacular for the Blades all season), as well as starting CB John Egan (sent off against Newcastle). There could also be some other injury issues.
This game was 3-3 the first time, and I expect there to be goals again. If the Red Devils can attack early, they can make sure they stay in the hunt for the top four, especially with Chelsea facing Manchester City on Thursday.
