Neman Grodno vs. FC Belashina Bobruisk starts Friday a noon EDT.
Neman Grodno will have to win at home without its ultras Friday
Neman Grodno is off to a 1-1-1 start to its 2020 Belarus Premier League campaign, but Friday’s home match with FC Belashina Bobruisk may look like many of the other games that were played right before they shut down due to COVID-19.
The Neman Grodno ultras, some of the most boisterous in Europe, have called for a ban on fans attending matches in the only league left playing on the continent.
“We are aware that someone is lying to us, and because of the difficult epidemical situation in the country we will stop attending the home and away matches of our team,” Neman Grodno ultras told Belarusian sports portal sport.tut.by.
“This is not an easy decision. It is difficult for us to leave the team without support, but now the most important thing is the health of our people. We call on all fan movements of Belarus to do the same. Let’s stay at home, reduce the risks of spreading coronavirus, protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
Belashina Bobruisk has lost all five matches it has played in 2020, and has scored just two goals (one in three league matches, one in two friendly matches.)
While Neman Grodno is not lighting it up, the Nemantsy should be able to find enough to pull out a victory, although there might not be many goals in this contest.
