Always nice when the only hockey game of the evening doesn’t even start until after your wife’s bedtime. Thank you, NHL Network!

Okay, so it’s Ottawa and Vancouver battling at the bottom of the newly-formed (and oh-so-overdue) North Division . . . which is forever to be etched in our minds as the Canadian Division.

The Canucks have allowed 33 goals – 10 more than any other team in the league. The Senators have not exactly burned out the scoring lamp, with just 14 tallies in five games. But this could be the contest where they match their opening-night production (five goals against the Maple Leafs). Vancouver has allowed at least five goals in their last four contests (5-5-7-5). That has Alternate Over written all over it.

The Sens haven’t scored a first-period goal in either of theirs last two games, but have allowed a single in every opening stanza this season.

Young center Drake Batherson is second on the club with 18 shots on goal (seven on Jan. 19 against Winnipeg) but has yet to cash in. Let’s see him put the brakes on that skid.
