I know what side I want of this pick ‘em in Game Two between Calgary and Dallas. Here’s the thing about the Flames. They’re good enough to suck you in, but bad enough to make you pay when you get sucked too far in. Yes, the Flames are off to an impressive start in the Edmonton bubble. Yes, they have a lot of talented forwards up front that make them a fun watch. Yes, they may even win this series. But, I’m still not buying the idea that we’re going to get consistent efforts from Calgary night in and night out. After all, this team isn’t much different than the one that alternated between making and missing the playoffs in each of the last four seasons and didn’t win a playoff series in the two years out of the four it did make it. Dallas was on the cusp of eliminating the eventual Stanley Cup Champions last season, losing in double overtime of the seventh game against St. Louis in the second round. The Stars simply weren’t ready to play in Game One of this series, allowing Calgary to open up a 2-0 lead early, and while Dallas came back to tie it, ultimately a Stars team that lacks the firepower the Flames have isn’t going to be able to get all the way back very often that Calgary eventually took it on Tuesday 3-2. I’d look at the Stars in the first period as well but in a game they have to have, I’ll just back them on the full game money line.
