We saw a note on hockey-reference.com that on Monday Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov had notched the ninth NHL postseason hat trick by a player before turning 21.
Old-time Maple leaf Ted Kennedy (19 years, 123 days) remains the youngest to do so (1945) and among the other seven are two performances by Wayne Gretzky (1981) and two by Flyers.
In 1986, Peter Zezel had three goals in a playoff game against the Rangers just nine days before turning legal.
And the second-youngest player to do so – at 19Y/128D – is current Flyer Sean Couturier against the Penguins in 2012. (Hard to believe Coots has been around that long.)
Any way, that is a long of getting to the fact that we will be using Couturier as our BoopProps Goal Scorer in the Flyers-Capitals game Thursday afternoon.
FanDuel had the best odds on Coots to score at all; DraftKing had best first/last goal odds.
We really wanted to play a Capitals Goals Under 2.5 Prop, but it will be Brian Elliott in goal instead of Carter Hart. Not sure why, since they haven’t played since Sunday and they are not going back-to-back here, but Alain Vigneault is the Coach of the Year Finalist, not I.
Since we took kind of a bath Wednesday – thanks to the low-scoring Sixers and Wizards – we may just keep the action to Couturier and save some money for the weekend.
