NHL: Dietel, Devils and Rangers head to western Canada

Devils @ Oilers, Rangers @ Canucks

Devils (+210) @ OILERS (-240), 9:30 pm
Pick: Oilers (-240)

The Devils (25-36-9) got trounced last night against one of the better teams in the league, the Calgary Flames. They had managed to play up to their competition for the first two periods but really dropped off letting up 5 goals in the third period and a F Johnny Gaudreau hat trick to put the icing on the cake. This has got to have head coach John Hynes’ blood boiling as his team has now dropped 7 straight games. This is a team in desperate need of a win and they’ll be looking for that in Edmonton tonight.

The Oilers were atrocious all season long but recently have started turning things around. They aren’t making the playoffs but have been playing well on the heels of F Connor McDavid and F Leon Draisaitl. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 and are coming off of a win against the Rangers. All of their last 4 games were decided by one goal so they won’t be a pushover tonight for the Devils. New Jersey played a long hard game yesterday so look for fatigue to play a factor. We just can’t in good conscience advise taking the Devils tonight.

Rangers (+110) @ CANUCKS (-120), 10:00 pm
Pick: Canucks (-120)

Another West Coast trip for one of our metropolitan teams has the Rangers (28-28-13) traveling all the way to Vancouver. The Blue Shirts are horrid this year. The only team they seem to be able to beat is the Devils. They are 2-3-5 in their last 10 and (only beating the Devils in that stretch) can’t seem to get anything going.

The Canucks (28-32-9) have also disappointed this season. Their last win was on Wednesday against the Maple Leafs. They have the fire power to get the job done but for some reason the Canucks find themselves in trouble more often than not. If both of these teams could lose, we would say bet on that but alas we will take Vancouver tonight, simply for the fact that they’ve got a more talented roster throughout.
