NHL Sunday: Metro Co-leaders in a Pair of NY Contests

Capitals-Rangers / Islanders-Flyers

CAPITALS (-145) at RANGERS (+125), 12:30 p.m.
Pick: Capitals To Win (-145)

The Capitals (37-21-7) are riding a three-game winning streak, haven’t lost back-to-back since mid-January and have caught the Islanders atop the Metropolitan Division with 81 points. And look at that, F Alex Ovechkin has hit the 40-goal mark once again.

The Rangers (27-27-10) have dropped their past three games but that was to be expected as they shipped out most of their best players of the past two years at the trade deadline. We like the Caps here. They snuffed out the Blue Shirts in overtime the last time they met and we think they can do it this time in 60.

FLYERS (+125) at ISLANDERS (-150), 3 p.m.
Pick: Islanders To Win (-150)

The Islanders (37-20-7) have been playing as a cohesive unit all year long, maintaining first place in their division for most of the season.

The Flyers (31-26-8) have been riding a 22-game crest (16-4-2) yet still have very little margin for error. This is one of three games with the Metro leaders over the final month of the season and those three games will go a long way towards whether we see Orange and Black on the ice in mid-April. They smoked the Devils a few days ago and newcomer F Ryan Hartman had an insane no-look, highlight-reel pass to F James Van Riemsdyk for the second goal. Fans were sour on losing Wayne Simmonds in the trade at first but they have already started to come around to Hartman. It just may not be enough to take down the Isles on the Island.
