NFL Draft Round 2: Our 5 Best Bets for Friday

After a wild round 1, the NFL Draft moves on to day 2 with plenty of first round talent still available. Here are our favorite bets for round 2.

As it always does, the first round of the NFL Draft delivered plenty of drama last night. The Falcons shocked everyone by drafting Michael Penix at 8, setting off a series of dominos that would see 6 quarterbacks get selected in the top 12 picks.

With Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft in the books, it's now time to pull up that 'best available' list and start locking in Round 2 wagers.

We broke down all of the odds available at sportsbooks like FanDuel and DraftKings to identify our 5 best bets for round 2 of the NFL Draft.

Bills Position of First Player Selected: WR (-300)

There may be riots in the streets of Buffalo if they don't get a wide receiver with pick 33. Everybody loves Khalil Shakir, but he isn't a true #1 option. Curtis Samuel has played 3 complete seasons in his 7 year career, and Mack Hollins is, well, Mack Hollins.

There is still depth at the position, but if Buffalo wants either Mitchell, Franklin, Coleman, or McConkey, they will need to take them at 33, because none of them will be available at 60.

Johnny Newton is an interesting zag at +250, but with DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver on the roster, DT is less of a need.

First LB Selected: Payton Wilson (+550)

Will we see a linebacker or running back drafted in round 2? If so, we are betting on a team taking a gamble on a potential Pro Bowl linebacker in Payton Wilson.

Wilson would likely have been a day 1 selection if it weren't for his injury history. He has ideal size, movement, and the best tape of any linebacker in this draft.

He was 30th on PFF's Big Board, and the only linebacker ranked inside of the top 59. If he falls late to the second round, we could see a team with less needs chase upside and grab him as the first LB off the board.

First Position Selected: Cleveland Browns - OL (+350)

The Browns will make their first pick of the draft at 54th overall, and we think they address a massive need by going with an offensive lineman.

The Browns addressed some defensive needs in free agency (Jordan Hicks and Quinton Jefferson). Cleveland is draft-poor due to the massive trade that brought in Deshaun Watson. They should now add some depth to the offensive line and protect that investment.

First Kicker/Punter Selected: Will Reichard (+190)

The odds on Reichard being the first kicker/punter selected simply don't add up. He's one of the top kickers in CFB history, and answered any questions about leg strength by going 5-for-5 from 50 yards plus this past season.

He likely doesn't have competition from another kicker, so you could pair this bet with a sprinkle on Tory Taylor at +900 to have action on the top kicker and punter in the draft.

Best Longshot Bet: First Safety Drafted - Malik Mustapha (+4000)

Mustapha is a guy that often came up as scout's #1 safety in this class, but the majority of rankings have him as a 4th round pick. With that type of variance, his +4000 odds make him an intriguing dart throw as we enter day 2 of the draft.

Mustapha is a throwback strong safety with a skillset that should be ideal for teams looking for a safety that can play in the box and instantly impact the run game.
