Thursday NFL: Jared Hackmyer picks the Giants vs. Eagles. The G-Men may have a tiny edge, but for NY, bad things happen in Philadelphia

Game time is 8:20 pm EDT from Lincoln Financial Field.

EAGLES (-3.5) Giants (44)

Jared’s Pick: Eagles

Breakout Player: RB Boston Scott

This Thursday, the 1-5 Giants will go head to head with the 1-4-1 Eagles. The winner of this game could very well be in first place if Dallas loses to Washington this Sunday. Both teams are struggling heavily with injuries: Philadelphia’s offense will be without TE Zach Ertz, RB Miles Sanders, and likely WR DeSean Jackson. QB Carson Wentz already has thrown 9 interceptions, now he will be without his best weapons. Aside from their skill positions, the Eagles’ offensive line is also facing a ton of injuries and Wentz has been sacked 25 times in only 6 games.

The Giants’ defense has shocked a lot of us this year. With QB Daniel Jones and the Giants offense not able to get much going, the defense has been the bright side. The Giants currently rank 8th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed, and with Sanders out, will face backup Eagle RB Boston Scott. New York’s secondary hasn't been great but should be able to handle Wentz's depleted corps.

So why pick the Eagles? The Giants have lost 7 straight to the Birds, 11 of the last 12 and 20 of the past 24. The Giants are also 2-8 in Philadelphia over the last decade. Right now, the Giants may be a slightly healthier, better team, but . . .
