For Thursday Night Football's Florida clash, Jared Hackmyer says the Jacksonville Jaguars are rebuilding faster than the Miami Dolphins

The O-2 Dolphins play at the 1-1 Jaguars Thursday at 8:20 pm EDT.

JAGUARS (-4) Dolphins (46.5)

Jared’s Pick: Jaguars

Breakout Player: QB Gardner Minshew

Even though the Jaguars didn’t get the win against Tennessee on Sunday, they still continued to prove the league wrong. Going into 2020 everyone thought this rebuilding Jacksonville team wouldn’t even compete, but they're 1-1 and QB Gardner Minshew threw for 339 passing yards and 3 touchdowns (with 2 interceptions) on Sunday. I don’t see Jacksonville contending this season, but they are definitely showing they have some talent for the future. One player I would watch on Thursday is Jaguar WR Laviska Shenault. Shenault only had 3 receptions in each of his last two games and one touchdown is his first, but as we head into week 3 I wouldn’t be shocked to see him get more targets from Minshew.

Miami has lost to two good teams Dolphin QB Ryan Fitzpatrick looked promising last week against Buffalo’s elite defense, but I think the best scenario for Miami would be to see if 2020 first-rounder QB Tua Tagovailoa can get this team some wins if Fitzpatrick struggles and the Dolphins don’t top the Jaguars this Thursday. Miami is farther ahead in their rebuild than Jacksonville is, but some of these young Miami players need to develop. The Dolphins defense could be short in their secondary with S Xavien Howard and CB Byron Jones questionable with injuries. This won’t be a blowout for either team, but after watching the first two weeks of the new season, Jacksonville looks more dominant on both sides of the ball.
