Bet the NFL: Pro football is back with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Houston Texans – Jared Hackmyer likes KC, tells you who to watch

The 2020 NFL season kicks off Thursday night at 8:20 pm EDT.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS -9 vs Houston Texans (55)
Jared’s Pick: Chiefs

With QB Deshaun Watson losing number one WR DeAndre Hopkins this offseason, don’t expect a strong start for the Texans offense in 2020. Houston did add former Cardinals RB David Johnson and former Rams WR Brandin Cooks, but losing a top 3 wide receiver could impact Watson in a bad way – at least early. One player to watch out for in Houston is WR Will Fuller. Fuller has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but was clearly Watson’s number two receiver when healthy.

It was reported on Sept. 8 that every Chiefs player was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, which means the Chiefs should be at full-strength for the game barring any last minute injuries.

Kansas City returns 20 starters from its Super Bowl LIV victory and drafted LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd pick in the 2020 NFL draft. My breakout player for the Chiefs Thursday night is second year WR Mecole Hardman. The Chiefs are expected to expand Hardman’s role in their offense after getting good looks from him in 2019. Hardman recorded 538 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns in 2019. Not only should we expect to see Hardman improve on offense, we can look for him as a kick returner. I can see Hardman’s targets almost doubling in 2020 after proving how reliable he was last season.
