VINTAGE DIGITS

>>> PHILLY

The Eagles took Temple linebacker Shaun Bradley in the sixth round Saturday, a reminder that the Sixers took Brigham Young center Shawn Bradley with the second pick in the 1993 NBA Draft.

The closest any of the other two Philadelphia teams have ever had to drafting a Shaun/Shawn Bradley would be . . .

> Bradley Coker, a catcher taken by the Phillies in the 17th round (No. 258) in 1980.

> E.J. Bradley, a center taken by the Flyers in the ninth round (No. 226) in 1993.

Neither of those ever made an appearance in the big leagues.

>>> EAGLES

Jalen Hurts, the Eagles surprising second-round pick, is just the fourth Division I quarterback with 30 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns in the same season:

32 / 23 . . . Tim Tebow, 2007 Florida

30 / 20 . . . Cam Newton, 2010 Auburn

30 / 21 . . . Lamar Jackson, 2016 Louisville

32 / 20 . . . Jalen Hurts, 2019, Oklahoma

>>> TEMPLE FOOTBALL

It says here that the non-Power 5 school with the most draft picks this year (4) is located on Philadelphia’s North Broad Street. Nice going to the following Temple Owls:

> C Matt Hennessy, 3/78 to the Falcons

> DB Harrison Hand, 5/169 to the Vikings (underclassman)

> LB Shaun Bradley, 6/196 to the Eagles

> LB Chapelle Russell, 7/241 to the Buccaneers

That is more players selected than the entire Mid-American Conference (3), the league in which Temple played from 2007-11.

>>> QUICKIE QUIZ HINTS

The only St. Joseph’s Prep player ever taken in the first round of a draft . . .

> Was a basketball player . . .

> Was taken by a Philadelphia team . . .

> Won a Championship with that team.

>>> EAGLES

The moment we heard that the Eagles had drafted wide receiver Jalen Reagor with their first-round pick late Friday night, we wondered if he was any relation to Alex Reiger. Alas, the fictional characted from Taxi had no football-playing children . . .

Reagor’s selection out of Texas Christian also brought to mind his school’s contribution to one of the greatest football names ever (an Eagle in 1973-74):

> RB Norm Bulaich.

It is just so much fun to say, and so much easier to spell than fellow Horned Frog product and former Eagle tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai.
