Monday's NFL news: Seahawks' Jarran Reed suspended 6 games, Jets sign TE Ryan Griffin, Lions place Trey Flowers on PUP

By Associated Press

Here's a look at Monday's news and transactions from around the NFL:

NFL suspends Seahawks DL Reed for 6 games

SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks will be without defensive lineman Jarran Reed for the first six games of the season after he was suspended by the NFL on Monday for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Reed may participate in preseason practices and games, but will not be available to the Seahawks until Oct. 14.

The suspension stems from an incident in April 2017. He was being investigated for assaulting a woman, who then filed an assault complaint. But Reed was not charged.

Jets sign former Texans tight end Ryan Griffin

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The New York Jets have signed former Texans tight end Ryan Griffin.

The move Monday adds depth to a spot at which the team will be a bit short-handed when the regular season begins. Second-year tight end Chris Herndon was suspended by the NFL for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

New York also has veterans Eric Tomlinson and Daniel Brown, and rookie Trevon Wesco at the position, but all three are known primarily for their blocking skills.

Lions put Flowers, Longa on PUP list before opening camp

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The Detroit Lions have placed defensive end Trey Flowers and linebacker Steve Longa on the physically unable to perform list.

In March, Flowers signed a five-year contract that could be worth as much as $90 million. He reportedly had shoulder surgery this offseason.

The Lions signed Longa in February. He had a season-ending knee injury last year during the preseason.

Source: Bills RB Gore has minor injury before camp opens

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press the Buffalo Bills have placed running back Frank Gore on the non-football injury list due to what is considered a minor injury.

The person did not reveal the nature of Gore's injury or how he was hurt in speaking to The AP on the condition of anonymity because the team has not released any information. Gore was placed on the list Monday, three days before the Bills open training camp in suburban Rochester, New York.

The NFL's transactions list also shows Buffalo placing tight end Tyler Kroft and guard Jeremiah Sirles on the physically unable to perform list. Kroft is in jeopardy of missing the start of the season after having surgery in May to repair a broken foot he hurt in practice.

Jets place Maye, Bryant on PUP; Austin on NFI list

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The New York Jets have placed safeties Marcus Maye and Brandon Bryant on the physically unable to perform list.

The team also announced Monday rookie cornerback Bless Austin was put on the non-football injury list.

Veterans report for training camp Wednesday. The first practice is Thursday.

Jaguars rookie safety Woods retires instead of reporting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars safety Zedrick Woods, an undrafted rookie from Mississippi, has submitted retirement paperwork with the NFL instead of reporting to training camp.

The Jaguars made the announcement Monday after rookies arrived at the facility. Woods was placed on the team's reserve/retired list.

Woods' agent, Ron Butler, says his client has been dealing with a turf toe injury that prompted the decision.
