Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero — A Statement Fight in the Making

  • Ryan Garcia: -1100

  • Rolando Romero: +650

Ryan Garcia’s return has the most buzz of the night, and it’s easy to see why.

After his no-contest with Devin Haney due to a banned substance, many were quick to write him off. Now, he’s back and better than ever. He’s leaner, faster, and with something to prove. This is also his welterweight debut, so there are questions about how his power carries and whether his speed remains his superpower at 147 pounds. It’ll make for a good fight either way.

Romero, on the other hand, is the perfect foil. He’s undoubtedly loud, aggressive, and fearless. Rolly comes forward looking for a knockout and isn’t shy about swinging for the fences. But his style is a double-edged sword sometimes. He often leaves himself wide open, especially to counters — and that’s exactly what Garcia thrives on.

  • Fight Prediction. We think Garcia’s timing should beat Romero’s brute force. The left hook will land early and often. The most likely outcome is that Garcia wins by KO or TKO before the 6th round. If Garcia is on, this might look like a re-run of De La Hoya vs. Mayorga.

  • Best Bet. The hot bet here is Garcia by KO/TKO/DQ at -400. If you're chasing value, Garcia to win in rounds 1-3 is at +350, but that might be a stretch.

Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez — The Pressure Test

  • Devin Haney: -1200

  • Jose Ramirez: +700

Devin Haney is technically the most polished fighter on the card. He jabbed his way through the lightweight division and held all 4 belts. But the Garcia fight, no contest or not, exposed the real vulnerabilities. He was caught clean, more than once, by left hooks — and that’s something Jose Ramirez might aim to exploit for himself.

Ramirez isn’t a slick boxer, either. He’s not going to try to outthink Haney. What he will do is walk him down, rip some heavy hooks to the body, and try to grind him down over 12 rounds. He’s got the experience, pressure, and grit to do just that, but is that enough?

Haney has had a full year to regroup and come up with a game plan. This is his 1st time at 147 pounds, and that added muscle could help him absorb some shots better than he did against Garcia. He also says he’s “mentally fresh” and plans to show off a more aggressive style. Whether that’s true or just pre-fight promo talk remains to be seen. Every fighter does it.

  • Fight Prediction. Haney is just too sharp to ignore. He’ll stick and move, pile up the points, and make Ramirez look slow by rounds 6-8. But don’t expect a stoppage. Ramirez is just way too tough. We’ll take Haney by decision in a clean if not electric, performance.

  • Best Bet. Haney by decision or technical decision at -390. Frankly, Ramirez is durable enough to go the distance, and Haney’s not known for knockouts. Plus, -390 is much better than -1200.

Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. — The Chess Match

  • Teofimo Lopez: -250

  • Arnold Barboza Jr.: +200

Now we’re talking. This is hands-down the best matchup on the card from a pure boxing standpoint.

Teofimo Lopez has the resume, the highlight reels, and the explosive tools to be a star — but he’s been hit or miss since his 2020 upset over Lomachenko. He hasn’t been all that active and had a couple of strange performances that have people questioning whether he’s still locked in.

Arnold Barboza Jr., on the other hand, is trending in the right direction. He’s currently undefeated, just beat Jose Ramirez and Jack Catterall, and has the kind of style that frustrates guys like Lopez. Barboza doesn’t have the big knockout power you’d like to see, but he’s got wheels, timing, and a serious work rate.

This fight really comes down to focus. If Lopez shows up motivated and aggressive, he can overpower Barboza with combinations and ring control. But if he starts slow, and Barboza has time to get comfortable — he could lose a decision.

  • Fight Prediction. This one will definitely go the distance. We expect swing rounds, close scoring, and some possible controversy. We’re leaning toward Lopez by split decision, but it won’t be pretty.

  • Best Bet. Fight goes the distance at -390 as both boxers are slick, smart, and conditioned. If you're feeling bold, Barboza by Decision at +260 is the value play of the night.

Undercard Spotlight — Reito Tsutsumi's Pro Debut

This will be a fun one to watch, but it’s not worth betting on like the other fights on the card. Keep an eye on the 6-round featherweight bout where Japan’s Reito Tsutsumi makes his pro debut. The books have him at -10,000 on the moneyline to win this fight, which are some odds we don’t typically bother with.

As a highly-touted amateur, Tsutsumi brings some seriously crisp fundamentals and elite pedigree which is surprising for someone with minimal experience on the big stage. He faces Levale Whittington, who’s been in with tougher competition. Of course, this is a showcase fight, but Tsutsumi is one to watch long-term.

Fights Like These Don’t Just Shake Up Rankings— They Rewrite Careers

Beyond the fights themselves, tonight sets up the next chapter in boxing’s welterweight saga and adds a few interesting wrinkles.

If Garcia and Haney both win, they’re on a collision course for a Saudi Arabia mega-fight in October that we simply can’t miss out on. If Barboza shocks Lopez, it blows open the 140-pound picture and might catapult Barboza into stardom. The odds aren’t leaning this way, but it could happen.

The event is historic in presentation — fighting in Times Square under the Manhattan lights — but also have some serious consequences going forward. There’s a very real chance that 2 or 3 divisions look very different after tonight.

And with odds this wide on some fights, there’s also value for bettors who can see the cracks in the favorite’s armor.
