Getting a handle on March Madness, and more

Sports betting revenue in Pennsylvania increased from $31.5 million in February to $41.5 million in March thanks to March Madness (and three extra days). Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh again led the state, probably because there's no legal sports betting in eastern Ohio and western New York.

There are three sports betting bills competing for legislator votes in Maine, a state with a lot of land, not a lot of people and no pro sports teams. The Maine legislators seem to be aware of some of the logistical problems as the high-end proposal for a gaming license is only $30,000. If they could some way come up with lines for deer hunting . . .

A sports betting bill is gaining support in Indiana but so far has no provisions for online betting. As we've stated previously, in New Jersey, for instance, online betting is 80% of the revenue.

In Missouri, legislators seek to institute an integrity fee of .25% to their sports betting bill. The money would go to pro sports leagues (who don't need the money) and state universities (who probably do). The notion, however, of politicians seeking an integrity fee is just hysterical. Maybe Missouri's voters should seek the same from their elected officials.

Tuesday Results

We had a so-so Tuesday picking team sports, with Craig Dietel going 2-0 on the NHL Playoffs. The highlights were again the railbirds (aka our horse handicappers). While McMudder had a rare off day, Chris Garrity won the 1st race at Sunland Park and the 2nd race exacta and trifecta. Not to be out-won, RT had the exacta in the 3rd at Indiana Grand plus winners in the 2nd, 5th, 6th and 8th.

We'll try to do better today.

Good luck at the tables, windows, kiosks and apps.
