Caesars deal will not be PA ticket for DraftKings

The recent deal between Caesars and DraftKings led to immediate speculation that Caesars would brand its PA Harrah's casino with DraftKings sports betting.

Caesars says no, because the PA state rules allow a licensee only one brand and Caesars wants to brand Harrah's.

So if DraftKings is going to become a leader in Pennsylvania sports betting, it's going to have to team with someone else. The Legal Sports Report says its best option may be Hollywood Casino in Grantville.

In other states . . .

The Indiana senate has passed a bill that would legalize sports betting. That bill would prohibit betting on amateur sports and video games.  Full story here. Is March Madness considered an amateur sporting event?

Former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine, who owns two sports bars in Connecticut that already offer horse race betting, spoke on behalf of expanding the options to sports betting at a hearing in Connecticut yesterday. The big player in the state, Mohegan Sun, is also strongly in favor. Full story here.

A revamped sports betting bill in Arizona passed a key vote in its senate. Full story here.

Will sports betting kill horse racing or save it?

There's an interesting philosophical/economic debate going on as to whether sports betting everywhere will ring the death knell for horse racing (folks will have so many other easy options to bet on) or whether the ponies can use it as an opportunity.

We'll try to get our horse race loving expert handicappers Mick McMudder and Chris Garrity (and our harness writers when they start) to weigh in on this down the road, but according to Legal Sports Report there are a few possibilities being discussed as to how horse racing can adapt (and they kind of use the Betfair model).

Ideas include fixed odds, mid-race winners (like NASCAR awards points for stages) and customer-created parlay bets. So it may not be long until one of Boop's Philly Props is: "No. 7 in the third race at Parx to be leading at the quarter poll and Ben Simmons to hit a three."

  • Former NFL star Pacman Jones was arrested early this morning in an Indiana casino for disorderly conduct and public intoxication among other things. TMZ has the story. (Gosh, it's like a flashback to writing Daily News Tattle.)

FanDuel NBA star(s) of the night

The Knicks winning again may not be good for the Knicks but it's sure been good for some players of NB Fantasy...

New time for newsletter

We're experimenting with sending it out at noon/lunchtime instead of early morning since so much of our action is in the later afternoon and evening. Anyone have any thoughts? Let us know. Thanks!

Tuesday Results

Yesterday, the big winner was Neal Abrams who went 11-4 with his first round tennis picks. There might be some money to be made here. Also Boop Vetrone won his Philly Props bet. Unfortunately, Temple couldn't hold on to win the game. The other disappointment of the day was Chris Garrity picked three winners in the Sunland Pick 4 and in the fourth race his chosen runners finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

We'll try to do better today.

Good luck at the tables, windows, kiosks and apps.
