Virginia Cavaliers at Louisville Cardinals, 12 noon Eastern
The Pick: Virginia -182, bet $27.30 to win $15; Virginia -4 (-110), bet $13.75 to win $12.50
It’s all about gunning for the NCAA Tournament. Currently, Virginia is 17-12 and projected to be out of March Madness. I’m banking on that squad, full of upperclassmen and a smart coach, not giving up just yet. The Cavaliers know that if they’re to squeak in, every game is huge. They will need to make noise in next week’s ACC Tournament - and they’ll have to make a statement today against a Louisville team that is ready for the season to be done. Head Coach Tony Bennett will have Virginia going all-out today, and they’ll get the win - even if it turns out to not be enough.
Miami Hurricanes at Syracuse Orangemen, 1 pm Eastern
The Pick: Miami +2 (-110), bet $22 to win $20
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim has never had a losing season. (shrug) I’ve never had blueberry pancakes. But I’m having them today. My point is, things happen that haven’t happened before. Syracuse will be playing hard today but Miami will be playing for its NCAA Tournament life. Both teams are 6-4 in their last ten but the Hurricanes are 5-2 in their last seven against the spread, and they’re 5-1 ATS as an underdog. They won’t be intimidated or uninspired today. They’re projected as an #8 seed in the tournament, but they want better than that. The Orange lost to Miami in their previous meeting, by one point. If it’s that sort of battle today, it’s a cover. I’ll take it.
Virginia Tech Hokies at Clemson Tigers, 2 pm Eastern
The Pick: Virginia Tech -156, bet $31.20 to win $20; Virginia Tech -3 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
The theme today has been Bracketology. Well, Joe Lunardi has Virginia Tech as the first team out of the brackets for the NCAA Tournament. So, it’s pretty simple. The Hokies need to win games if they want to rest easy come a week from tomorrow. That means winning today, against a Clemson team that’s lost 10 of their last 15 games. Virginia Tech is 9-1 in their last 10, and Joe Lunardi still thinks it isn’t enough yet. The Hokies will be all guns blazing this afternoon.
