Appalachian State Mountain Men at Duke Blue Devils, 7 pm

The Picks: Duke -21.5 (-118), bet $11.80 to win $10; over 138.5 points (-110), bet $16.50 to win $15

Duke resumed play on Tuesday after a two-week break, and even though they beat South Carolina State by 41, I think the memory of dropping a game to Ohio State (and losing their No. 1 ranking) on Nov. 30 is somehow still what Coach K is mentioning most often to his team. The Blue Devils are rested, at home, and average 85.3 points per game. Appalachian State averages 69.7, a total well beyond 138.5. I don’t see the Blue Devils being lulled into a slow-paced affair; take the over.

Dartmouth Big Green at Stanford Cardinal, 10 pm Eastern

The Pick: Teaser Duke -15.5 w/Stanford -7.5 (-125), bet $15.62 to win $12.50

…and I’ll also tease Duke with Stanford, who hosts a Dartmouth team on a four-game losing streak and flying west a week before Christmas. I think focus might be an issue for the Big Green. Stanford promises to be close to the tournament bubble come March and can’t afford to lose these games. They’re also coming off a big conference win against Oregon. They’ll want to keep the momentum going.
