Kern picks Villanova vs Georgetown, Purdue vs Rutgers, Penn State vs Northwestern, Seton Hall vs Creighton, UNC v Duke, DePaul v Providence

Busy final regular-season weekend in college hoops. So here goes, coming off a nice (3-for-3) Friday. Let the good times keep rolling.

I have to try and use a little whatever here, since there’s so much to have an opinion on one way or the other. Hopefully the right way.

Let’s tease Villanova down to +2.5 at Georgetown. The Wildcats have won six of seven, and four straight on the road. Georgetown is banged up and hasn’t been playing as well of late. I don’t know if Cats cover the touchdown and a hook, but I think they can get the W by a field goal. I’m going to take them with Purdue just to win at home against Rutgers. Purdue is tough to figure out. But Rutgers has won one road game. Don’t think the Knights will make it two here.

In another teaser, let’s try North Carolina +16.5 at Duke, with Providence -5 against visiting DePaul. We had the Heels in the first meeting as a dog at home, and they came through in big way. I think Devils will get their revenge, but that does seem like a lot to lay for a team that’s struggled the last few weeks. Of course maybe that just means it’s one of those sucker things, which I’ve got trapped into before. As for Providence, the Friars have rather quietly been playing really well. And DePaul is, well, mostly DePaul. I think the Friars get it done.

I’m also going to tease Penn State to -2.5 at Northwestern. I know Nits have hit a wall, but it is Northwestern. So I think they can at least get the win here heading into Big Ten tourney. Let’s put them with Creighton +2 at home against Seton Hall. This should be a monster game, between two of the three best teams in the Big East. I give the slight edge at home to the Bluejays, in what should be a whacko setting.

There were a few other games I was looking at, but didn’t want to get too carried away. There will be no shortage of opportunities in the next three weeks, trust me. Sometimes you have to know when to say enough. For the time being.
