Monday NCAA Basketball picks from Kern: Colgate vs Boston University, Duke vs Florida State, Baylor vs Texas, and TCU vs Texas Tech

Not a lot to get too excited about on Monday night in the colleges, but there’s usually something that can at least give you a reason to watch. And you only need one or two to make it a successful betting night, right?

We’ll try Colgate at Boston University, getting a point. These are the two best teams in the Patriot League, and while the Red Raiders are on the road I think they’re the slightly better team. And we only have to be slightly better. Both teams have been playing really well, so there’s not much to choose. Just have a feeling the visitors have a little more at their disposal, and that it’s enough. As always, we’ll see.

I also like three teams to play in some sort of teaser, but you might only want to try two of them in some combination. First I’m looking at moving Duke down from 8 to 3 at home against Florida State. I know the Blue Devils are coming off a tough overtime win at North Carolina, and FSU is good, but I think once again they’ll do at least enough to win by more than a field goal. Of course if you prefer moving FSU up to 13 that could work too. I also like Baylor only laying 3 at Texas. I know top-ranked teams have been falling all season to opponents that don’t look like all that much, but the Bears have owned this series. Not sure they’ll cover the touchdown or so, but don’t think they’ll lose outright either. And also in the Big 12 I’m thinking Texas Tech at home against TCU should be able to cover a spread of 5. TCU beat the Red Raiders last month, but hasn’t been playing very well. And Tech looks like it’s rounding back into good form, as they like to say in golf.

So there you have it, for now anyway. Check back tomorrow for what’s usually a busy Tuesday slate and of course the weekly PGA Tour stuff.
