Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix -225, bet $33.75 to win $15; Phoenix -5.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
I didn’t expect Devin Booker to play in Game 6 of the New Orleans/Phoenix series, and he didn’t carry a big load, but if he was healthy enough to play then, he’ll be even closer to 100% with almost four days rest. With Booker, the Suns are just too powerful offensively for Dallas to contain too long over the course of a playoff series. This team is smarter, more skilled, more used to winning in the playoffs, and less snakebitten than the Mavericks’ last opponent, Utah, was. Dallas point forward Luka Doncic may - may - be the best player on the floor, but even if he is, Phoenix’s Booker and Chris Paul are #2 and #3, or even #1B and #1C. Plus, the Suns’ Mikal Bridges is a defensive stopper who may at least slow down Doncic. Even with Luka, the Mavericks’ offense is ranked 24th in the league. In the slowed-down playoffs and someone besides Doncic and Jalen Brunson will have to step up for Dallas to make this a series. Dallas has lost their last nine games to the defending Western Conference Champs. The price on Phoenix winning the series is too high for any value, so I’ll take it game by game. But I think the Suns are several levels above the Jazz, and will cruise past an overmatched Dallas to the next round.
