Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks, 1 pm Eastern
The Pick: Philadelphia -7.5 (-108), bet $21.60 to win $20
This afternoon will be the first chance for a national television audience to check out the new super-duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden. My tongue is somewhat in my cheek calling them that; I think that it’s not a given the two of them playing together will be without issues. But it will be fun to watch, and it follows that they’ll want to put on a show in New York today. The Knicks are in a bit of a free-fall, losing eight of nine, and although he wasn’t lighting it up, Kemba Walker being sidelined for the rest of the year is a symbolic gesture. New York may be giving up on the season. I think Harden and Embiid will want to prove they can not only co-exist but dominate, and anyone tuning into ABC today gets to see it.
Boston Celtics at Indiana Pacers, 5 pm Eastern
The Pick: Boston -8.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
Boston cruised against the Pistons last night, overtaking them in the second half, and tonight they go up against an Indiana team clearly poised to rebuild. The Celtics are hot, 9-1 in their last ten including six straight on the road. They’re second in the NBA in rebounding while Indiana is 15th, and the Pacers traded Domantas Sabonis and are now without Myles Turner. Boston should have their way on the boards. As they climb up the standings, they now sit just one game out of homecourt advantage in a first-round series. They continue their rise tonight.
Detroit Pistons at Charlotte Hornets, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Charlotte -10 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
Detroit lost to the Celtics last night, now go on the road to face a Charlotte squad that’s beaten them ten out of the last ten games and is 12-7 as a favorite. The Hornets are fighting for their playoff lives at this point, and cannot afford to lose at home to a team any reasonable observer would say is tanking for draft position.
