Oklahoma City Thunder at Detroit Pistons, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Detroit -178, bet $17.80 to win $10; Detroit -4 (-106), bet $5.30 to win $5

Please don’t misunderstand me, here. Detroit is a bad team. But they do play hard at home, where they’re just 2-8 overall but 5-5 against the spread. They’ve not been the favorite often this season, but they are 1-0 when they are. And Oklahoma City is not a good team. They’re 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against the Pistons. Guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander suffered a concussion recently and will be out tonight; that’s a big loss for the Thunder. Both of these squads are “maintaining” eight-game losing streaks, and strictly speaking, someone has to win tonight. I think it’s Detroit. Moneyline for dinner, lay the four points for dessert.

Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Indiana -5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10

I swear, this is not just a “revenge” pick against Washington because they gravely insulted me last night by laying an egg against the Toronto Raptors (though look, man - I have every right to be upset). This is strictly a “second game of a road back-to-back” thing. The Wizards are 2-6 in their last eight against the spread, while Indiana has dropped its last two games at home. In their last matchup, Washington barely hung on to beat Indiana at home, 135-134. I think the Pacers know they let that one slip away, and they know they need a win tonight. I think Washington subconsciously knows even if they lose tonight, they get an easy game against Detroit on Wednesday.

Philadelphia 76ers at Charlotte Hornets, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Charlotte +7.5 (-114), bet $5.70 to win $5

Charlotte has a number of players out following COVID protocol: LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, and my go-to player prop guy Mason Plumlee. They’re still a “home dog” here and 7.5 points? That’s a bunch. The Hornets are 7-2 at home this year and have won five straight in their gym. They’re going to try to protect that. They’ve also averaged 118.8 points in their last ten games, so they’ve got the firepower to burn. Also, don’t underestimate Philadelphia’s injury report. Tobias Harris will be out tonight, and that’s not insignificant. I think the Hornets play hard and keep it close.
