We detailed last night how this was an interesting week for the Hawks, a team trying to emerge out of the cellar in the East and compete for the playoffs in 2020. Atlanta hosted Philadelphia last night and begins a home-and-home with Miami tonight. The Sixers are one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference and Miami figures to be a team competing with Atlanta for one of the lower playoff seeds. After a hard-fought 105-103 loss to Philly on Monday night, this might be a tricky spot for the young Hawks mentally and physically. Jimmy Butler is slated to make his debut for the Heat in this one, which immediately makes Miami a better defensive team. With Atlanta on the second night of a back-to-back and Miami getting a good wing defender in the lineup, we’ll lay the eight to back the home team here and play the game under the total.

What reason do the Lakers have to win by this kind of margin against this opponent? The Memphis Grizzlies are a young team that’s not going to play in the postseason. The Lakers are a team with high expectations that’s still looking to figure out how to best make the new pieces fit after a busy offseason. One of those new acquisitions, center Dwight Howard, had a big game off the bench on Sunday against Charlotte posting 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in a 120-103 victory. The Hornets hung tough most of the way at Staples Center trailing by just one at half and by seven at the end of three quarters. While the Lakers don’t have much of a reason for a blowout victory here, the Grizzlies and their Rookie of the Year candidate Ja Morant sure would like to hang around in this one. A team like the Lakers is going to get the best shot from opponents on a nightly basis and for a Memphis team going nowhere this season, this game at the end of October holds a little more weight.
