MLB Wednesday Strikeout Watch: Krothers picks over/under for Patrick Corbin, Gerrit Cole, Lance Lynn

Nationals @ Rays, 7:10 pm ET, Yankees @ Twins, 8:10 pm ET, Blue Jays @ White Sox, 8:10 pm ET.

Now that MLB has told us they are going to address the sticky-ball issue, we need to address the next issue in the sport – base-running.

If you watched the Phillies over the weekend you were witness to one of the more egregious displays of baserunning ignorance I’ve ever seen.

Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. It appears the younger players are simply not learning the fundamentals in the minors. For more details, I highly recommend the article by Tim Kurkjian on ESPN today.

Now on to the K-Props…

Nationals @ Rays, 7:10 pm ET

The Nationals’ Patrick Corbin is having a tough year. That’s a nice way of saying he’s not been good – an ERA of 6.28 and a WHIP of 1.52 is … not good. His strikeout rate? Also, not good. Corbin used to be a K machine – in 2019 he had 238 K in 202 innings. This year he has 45 K in 57.1 innings. He’s only broken 5 K in one start this year, and that was against the free swinging Phillies. With the line set at 5.5, picking the under is a no-brainer for me. Looks like you can get -124 for the under 5.5 at FanDuel.

Yankees @ Twins, 8:10 pm ET

What is going on with Yankees’ Gerrit Cole? Yesterday he couldn’t answer the question of whether or not he was using illegal substances on the ball. It was not a good look and must be weighing heavy on his head tonight. Together with the fact that he hasn’t broken 7 strikeouts in a game in the last four starts, I’m not expecting a big outing. The line is set at 8.5, and I’ll take the under at -139 from DraftKings.

Blue Jays @ White Sox, 8:10 pm ET

Lance Lynn takes the mound for the White Sox tonight and he looks like a man on a mission. His only loss this year was when he gave up 2 runs. On the strikeout side of things he’s struck out 63 over 58.2 innings – not too shabby. That said, FanDuel has set the over/under line at 7.5 – too high for my liking as he’s only broken 7 once in his last seven outings. I’ll take the under 7.5 at FanDuel at -176.
