Thursday MLB Best Bets from Eckel: A pair of HR picks, Nationals vs Mets, Brewers vs Cubs, and Pirates vs Reds
It was a mixed Wednesday.
The White Sox gave us an early winner, before the Rockies imploded late and lost to the Diamondbacks. Nolan Arenado hit two home runs, however.
Then the Twins beat the Brewers, while our shot play Seattle had an early lead, but fell to the Rangers.
Let’s try again with a short slate Thursday.
Washington Nationals at New York Mets, 1:10 p.m.
Pitchers: Austin Voth vs. David Peterson
Odds: Nats +110; Mets -130
Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs, 4:05 p.m.
Pitchers: Brett Anderson vs. Yu Darvish
Odds: Cubs -184; Brewers +159
Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds, 5:10 p.m.
Pitchers: Trevor Williams vs. Anthony DeSclafani
Over/Under: 9
The Cycle
Single: My first thought on the Pirates/Reds game is, who plays games at 5:10? My second thought is this is going to be a low scoring game, because nether team hits very well ad both pitchers have been pretty good. DeSclafani has yet to allow a run in two starts and Williams has a career 2.03 ERA against the Reds. Take the under.
Double: My only thought on the Nats/Mets is why are the Mets the favorite? Something doesn’t seem right here, so I’m going to go with the rookie Peterson to knock off the World Champions.
Triple: You really don’t want to bet a -184 straight up, but the Cubs and Darvish are a good play. So put them in a parlay with the Mets.
Home Run: Let’s go with the suddenly hot Pete Alonso, of the Mets and Anthony Rizzo, of the Cubs to take one out Thursday.
