Thursday’s Race Recap from Saratoga:

(All odds US)

Saratoga:

Race 1: 1st@ 4.30/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 5: 4th@ 15.10/1

Race 7: 3rd@ 6.10/1

After a few tough second-place finishes Wednesday we kicked off our Thursday with a WIN as Alterina stalked the early pace and kept to the rail as she finished best of all for a 4/1 win. In Race 5, Holder Close broke last and was well back early in her debut and rallied late for fourth in an effort that will set herself up for future efforts. In Race 7, Mia Bea Star rated behind a slow pace and rallied mildly for third.

At the moment there’s an 80% chance of rain in the forecast for Saratoga on Friday. I’m handicapping for ‘off the turf’ except for the stakes races as I presume they’ll want to keep the course as fresh as possible for Saturday’s big day of racing. Let’s get to work on Travers Friday!

Saratoga:

Race 9: Idiomatic - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 3/1)

The Grade 1 Personal Ensign at a mile and an eighth is our feature race on today’s card. Nest will be our overwhelming favorite on the basis of her stellar record here at Saratoga, but she made a name for herself as a three-year-old by beating up on a pretty weak three-year-old filly division last year. Last time out she stalked a tomato can and was able to get the jump on the late closing Clairiere for the win. Today Idiomatic will require more work to run down. Last time out she threw it down with the classy Classy Division from the same barn as Nest and came out on top. She rates the prime speed on the rail for a 23% trainer and she has been working well since her last start. She’s never been off the board in her career and if connections of Nest think they’re going to reel her in the way they reeled in claimer Pistol Liz Ablazen last time out, they are mistaken.

Best of luck to all our members playing Friday’s races from Saratoga!
